MECHANICAL REQUIREMENTS/PRINTING SPECIFICATIONS

PRINTING METHOD: Web offset with Publisher making plates at no cost. All forms printed wet: web offset.

DIGITAL AD SPECIFICATIONS: If an ad does not meet all of the requirements outlined below, a graphic alteration charge will be applied to the final bill. This charge is $60 per hour. Minimum charge is one hour. If the setup of your ad does NOT meet these requirements, please contact the Production Department immediately, +1 904.721.2925. All digital media should be sent to:

PLATFORMS: Mac or PC

MEDIA: CD-ROM

APPLICATIONS: Quark, Photoshop, Illustrator, Freehand, Print-quality PDF

PROOFS: For 4-color printing, furnish Matchprints or similar proofs. Furnish 1 set of proofs with insertion order. For B&W or simple two-color advertisements, your proofs may be bluelines or repros. Furnished off-press proofs must comply with S.W.O.P standards.

DISK CONTENTS: Either include a "Collect for Output" report or a detailed file list

FONTS: Adobe Type 1. Include BOTH screen & printer fonts on disk. No TrueType Fonts.

RESOLUTION: 300 dpi. Save all graphics as a .tiff or .eps file. Do not embed images into final layout file.

COLOR: CMYK breakdown. Ads needing conversion from RGB will be charged accordingly. Total ink saturation should not exceed 280%.
Pantone colors must be paid for and clearly specified. If one is to be created out of process, clearly specify PMS number.

TRAPPING: Do not provide trapped files.

INKS: Standard S.W.O.P.; second colors and four-color process colors.

BINDING: Saddle Stitch

MATERIAL RELEASE: Material for which return instructions are not provided will be destroyed 12 months after use.

All supplied Inserts must be approved by submitted sample no later than eight weeks prior to publication. Furnished Inserts should be shipped prepaid to:

One or two-page, back to back,
furnish one up 8-1/8" x 11-1/8" 206 x 280mm
Two-page spread or four-pages, furnish one up 16" x 11-1/8" 406 x 280mm
Safety margin, each edge 3/8" 9mm
Binding: Saddle Stitched, trim all 3 sides,
Book trim size 7-7/8" x 10-3/4" 200 x 273mm
Folding: Spread Inserts, furnish flat
Paper stock 60 to 100 lbs., 25 x 38 - 500 basis. Anything over 100# must have publisher approval.

INSERT OVERWEIGHT CHARGES: Maximum weight and thickness without premium: 100 lb. enamel (25 x 38 ream weight) or 70 lb. offset book or their equivalent up to a calipered thickness of .006. Publisher will accept heavier, provided that an over-weight premium is paid as follows: 10% additional to the earned rate (including back-up charges, if any) for Inserts which weigh more than 100 lb. for a ream of 25 x 38 OR which caliper over .006 but not more than .008 per sheet; 20% additional for those calipering over .008 to .010. Maximum is.010. Trimming of over-sized Inserts will be charged at cost. Back-up and trimming charges are not commissionable.

CLOSING DATE: At Mining Media office on first of preceding month. Enclose sample or dummy. Send three copies of finished piece.

FINAL DATE FOR DELIVERY: At BANTA on the 15th of preceding month.

WEIGHT OF STOCK AND INSERT OVERWEIGHT CHARGES: Maximum weight and thickness without premium: 100 lb. enamel (25 x 38 ream weight) or 70 lb. offset book or their equivalent up to a calipered thickness of .006. Publisher will accept heavier, provided that an overweight premium is paid as follows: 10% additional to the earned rate (including backup charges, if any) for Inserts which weigh more than 100 lb. for a ream of 25 x 38 OR which caliper over .006 but not more than .008 per sheet; 20% additional for those calipering over .008 to .010. 25% additional for those over .010. Maximum is .012. Trimming of oversized Inserts will be charged at cost. Backup and trimming charges are not commissionable. Publisher may accept specially folded or die-cut Inserts, but dummy must be submitted before printing.

INSERT RATES: Black and white earned page rate applies for each page of furnished Inserts. On one-page Inserts furnished printed one side of sheet only, coated stock, add $700 backup premium. Backup charge on spread Inserts is $1,060. Submit novelty Inserts for quotation and specifications. No insert price quotes are final until publisher receives samples of insert.
